Are you looking for another awesome show that is on par with West World and has some of the iRobot concept built into it? The good news for you is that Humans just finished up Season 3; so you have a-lot of episodes to catch up on. Luckily, I caught this show during the end of Season 1, three years back.
Basically, Humans takes place in the United Kingdom and it’s refreshing to see a non-US TV show that has placed a great amount of effort in production, effects, and a great story line. From what I have gathered, the story takes place in the current day, but that is assuming that we have mastered robotics. The robots that are purchased for use are known as “Synths”. These Synths have realistic and human like-features, but have built-in green eyes so that they can be distinguish easily as Synths. The Synths are non-emotional and are very logical.
So now that you witnessed the video and have a slight warm and fuzzy; we all know that the story line is critical. Like West World (and apologize if you have not seen the show), the story does not jump into the main plot. Rather Humans takes it time in developing the story. The main plot of the story takes effect in Season 3; which was rather well done.
The key thing you have to understand for Season 1 is that there are very few Synths that are self-aware and have emotions. The Synths that are aware work together with one another and discover one another. On purpose, the few Synths that were made separately apart from the normal Synths were made by their creator, Dr. David Elster. A primary character named Leo Elster is the son of the great doctor. For reasons he is unaware, Leo technically died in a car accident as a child. Dr. Elster utilized his ingenuity to revive his son and make him part synth. The Synths that are aware; their primary purpose is to take care of Leo Elster as he continues to grow throughout life.
Leo is not the main focus of the Humans, but is more of a reason why the show exist in the first place. I was some confused about him at first, which is why I brought him up first.
The primary character of the show is a Synth known as Anita – Mia, who we will call Mia. Mia is brought into the home of the Hawkins family. The Hawkins family wanted a Synth; for comfort reasons and due to social pressure.
Joe (Husband) and Laura (Wife) Hawkins purchase Anita who is sold as new, but is implemented with her own mind and is known as Mia. Within the family, she hides in secret.
Joe and Laura’s kids are excited that Mia (Anita) will join the Hawkins Family. Throughout the show, you will notice that the family is somewhat fractured. Joe actually has sex with Anita, which Laura eventually finds out (resulting in a rift). Their daughter starts to act like a robot and Laura has never felt comfortable in owning a Synth.
Without going to deep into the show, Mattie Hawkins (eldest daughter) eventually comes across the conscious code, which wakes up EVERY Synth across the world. She is a gifted hacker and feels empathy for the Synths. In Season 2, she is responsible for the Synths waking that cause havoc across the World in Season 3. The Synths are then hunted from the resulted chaos. Sadly, many Synths want to live peaceful lives. The plot thickens as Mia stands for civil rights, while other Synths; one known as Leader attempts to maintain order.
Other Synths recall their previous lives. Some were victims to abuse and one sets off a suicide bomb; which further creates civil discord. From there, Synths start to rebel against each other and take action whether to fight or live amongst the humans. Without revealing too much, this is to give you a basic idea that the story line has many twist and turns and continues to grow.
This is a great show and is worth watching, defiantly if you enjoyed watching West World. The show is effective in maintaining realism and nothing seems to repeat. Each episode is a new episode and I am defiantly looking forward to Season 4. What are your thoughts?
