K. Backup & Restore

Basic Information

The PG Server Restore & Backup has been revised quite often; to ensure that the process runs smoothly.  Understand that this process can take quite awhile, so do not interrupt the process.   A video has been attached to make the process for you easier to understand!

NOTE:  Ensure that you have RClone INSTALLED and your GDrive is INSTALLED prior.  Failing to do so will result with nothing working.

NOTE:  Pay attention to your server ID and recovery ID.  If your recovering from another server name, you need to change the recovery ID.

Key Notes:

  • Large programs can take a very long time depending on size
  • Ensure you have enough diskspace
  • Type everything lowercase (case sensitive)
  • While your program is backing up or restore, your docker container will shut down to prevent data corruption!

Manual Backup

If for some reason the plexguide built in backup is not working or erroring it is possible to run a manual backup by doing the following:

  1. From the command line, type sudo tar -czvf appname.tar /opt/appdata/appname replacing “appname” with the name of the app you are backing up. Example sudo tar -czvf /opt/appdata/sonarr.tar /opt/appdata/sonarr.
  2. Repeat the above step for all of the backups that you want to backup.
  3. Type sudo mv /opt/appdata/*.tar /mnt/gdrive/plexguide/backup/
Just check to ensure the various backups are in your gdrive ie sonarr, radarr, nzbget, plex and etc.

Manual Restore

If for some reason the plexguide built in restore is not working or erroring it is possible to run a manual restore by doing the following:

  1. From the command line, type sudo cp /mnt/gdrive/plexguide/backup/*.tar /tmp/
  2. Type sudo tar -C / -zxvf /tmp/appname.tar which should restore your apps back to /opt/appdata/
  3. Type sudo rm -rf /tmp/*.tar once you are sure your apps have been restored to then delete the .tar files.
  4. Once done, you will need to go through and install your apps via the normal installers. Your settings will be preserved. For Plex, no need to claim the server if restoring from a backup.
