I have a Hetzner EX62-NVMe with supposed guaranteed gigaabit speeds

Downloads from Usenet never exceeds 500 mbit, and upload to google drive never exceeds 90 mbit. Anybody else experiencing this. I have done a speedtest with speedtest-cli and taht says
Selecting best server based on ping...

Hosted by KNT Internet (Riethnordhausen) [107.87 km]: 11.398 ms
Testing download speed................................................................................
Download: 871.97 Mbit/s
Testing upload speed................................................................................................
Upload: 580.62 Mbit/s

So maybe the limitation is in my usenetserver and in google drive? What are your speeds

Same machine, not even close to hitting those speeds..

Screenshot_3.png

Nerver getting more then this with speedtest (downlaod varies between 100 and 300) while downloading can go up to 98mb/s (this morning with usenet)

Google upload speeds never exceed 60mb/s (might have to do with RClone settings though)

My (non Hetzner) box has a 10Gbit connection and my google uploads never go above 50-60MB/s, but if restoring from PG Vault I get download speeds of around 400MB/s. I think the upload is just limited somewhere on google's side. When I did have a Hetzner box, my speedtests were never that great, but my NZB speeds would be up near 1Gbit.

Storage speed from what I've seen is also pretty important to getting good usenet speeds, even servers I've had with sata SSDs have speed problems sometimes. My main server has 2x1tb nvme drives in raid 0 and my usenet speeds are up in the 300-350MB/s range. Keep in mind I also have a 10gbit connection.

I use a cheapo $3/mo Usenet provider and can get full gig. Are you in the Germany or Finland datacenter? I'm in Germany. As others mentioned drive speed matters too. I throttle Google uploads to 500mbs but it caps that as well. Make sure your rclone settings are not throttling uploads and change the user agent string in the rclone options to Mozilla. See if that helps.

For usenet make sure you are using the ssl host names and ports, if it offers 443, use port 443. If your provider offers 20+ connections don't set higher or lower than 20 connections. Too many can cause slow downs as well as too few.

When it comes to connections, you want to maximise line speed with the minimum number of connections required to do so. If you can have 20 and hit gigabit only using 10, you aren’t gaining anything by throwing the other 10 at it, in fact likely the opposite.

Upload wise I have issues with Hetzner, I have seen HCloud hit over 500MB/s (yes MB/s) upload, but currently I max out at 60 or so with a EX42-NVMe running R0, obviously it can do way better than that. Rclone settings likely have room for improvement and it’s a well discussed topic on the rclone forums, but it’s highly subjective.

Agree and better stated than me. I have found 20 is the sweet spot for 1 gig to max out, but obviously ymmv. I have also found that changing the rclone agent id string to match that of a browser yields better speeds.

Can you guys share your rclone settings? I'm seeing a lot of different ones in the rclone forum here. Maybe I can user yours to get better speeds

Keep in mind I recently throttled my upload speeds to 40MBs to not impact users streaming. The 600mbs left over is enough for my user streaming needs.
Code:

dont forget - if you are using normal pgmove (not blitz) then rclone is throttled to not exceed 750gb upload in 24 hour window to gdrive

The 750GB cap has zero impact on speed, unless you happen to hit the cap mid test :D

⏩ RClone speed test
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
This will allocate a 4gb file on your system.
It upload it to your drive while reporting the speed.
After that it will download that file to your drive while reporting the speed.
This is useful to test changes to the rclone options.
NOTE: This speed test DOES NOT use the BWLimit or the Max-Transfer settings.
[1] Set file size to test, currently [4G]

[Z] Exit

Cool - I hadn't noticed the rclone speed test tool.

Upgraded my BW limit, and now it works great with the gdrive upload.

Just want to pitch in, I've maxed out my gigabit connection on my AX41-NVMe in Helsinki. It has been maxing both up and down for over 10 days now.
