If you have more than one vps or cloud server running , you don’t need to install the portainer container on every vps. You install one portainer container and on the other servers you can install portainer agent. When installed you have to setup the agent as endpoint in portainer and you can connect to the other docker setups. Here is the setup for the agent. This is tested by me and is working for 100%.

Code:
docker run -d \
--name=portaineragent \
--restart=always \
-p 9001:9001 \
-e PGID=1000 -e PUID=1000 \
-v /etc/localtime:/etc/localtime:ro \
-v /var/run/docker.sock:/var/run/docker.sock \
-v /var/lib/docker/volumes:/var/lib/docker/volumes \
portainer/agent

Ah that's good to know; probably something to add to the wiki down the road.

Maybe this can be implemented as role without the traefik part.

ya it's not that, it's more of how to implement it, personally; i wouldn't use it. i would just goto portianer.domain.com, but its the figuring out of having both options rather

Do you need to remove the full portainer Docker container first, or can the agent be run alongside the full container?

it is better to remove to portainer container and then install the agent.
Set also the restart-policy to unless-stopped otherwise the container always restarts.

@Admin9705 , can you change the restart policy in the role to "unless-stopped"?
Thanks.
