Plex Guide is for real people - frustrated streamers, media nerds, and tech tinkerers - not for data miners! Here’s what we collect, why, and how you can stay in control.
What We Collect (and Why)
When you use the PlexGuide forum (plexguide.com
), we collect:
1. Account Info
- Username, email address, password (hashed)
- Optional profile info (bio, avatar, links)
Why? To let you post, reply, get notified, and personalize your account.
2. Posts & Activity
- Topics you create, replies you post, and likes you give
- Time spent reading, badges earned, and trust levels
Why? To run the forum, recognize helpful users, and fight spam.
3. IP Address & Cookies
- We log IP addresses for basic security and rate limiting
- Cookies are used to keep you logged in and remember your settings
Why? So the forum works like it should — fast, safe, and spam-free.
What We Don’t Do
- We don’t sell your data
- We don’t use advertising trackers or ad pixels
- We do use Google Analytics to understand general forum usage (page views, visits, browser types). This data is anonymized and helps us improve the site.
- We don’t read your private messages (unless flagged for abuse)
Third-Party Services
We host the forum ourselves. That means your data stays on infrastructure we manage. We do use trusted services like:
- Email delivery (e.g. Mailgun) — to send you account notifications
- Cloud storage (for backups or CDN serving) — encrypted and stored offsite for disaster recovery
We pick privacy-respecting providers and keep their access minimal.
Your Rights
You can:
- Download your data at any time
- Delete your account (removes personal info, anonymizes posts)
- Request removal of specific posts or data — just message an admin
